Hello everyone, I’m finally here to bring more nice information about the school, for those who are very curious about each step. Today was my first day at school, but this post is about yesterday in the VFS Orientation Day<\/strong>. I was very excited during all the presentations and I can say for sure that everyone who will start classes at VFS is gonna feel the same way, because it was amazing. \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n

The Orientation Day was booked at Scotiabank Theatre<\/strong>, on Burrard Street. Scotiabank Theatre is one of the most amazing theatres of Vancouver. It was great to see how powerful the school is, to the point of renting this place for us students.<\/p>\n

The school asked us to go to the theatre at 8h00am. I was there a few minutes before and I could see a lot of another students just waiting for the doors be opened.\u00a0Of course that as I’m one very anxious person, I had my heart racing because of the waiting. As all school programs had their orientation day at the same time, no one knew for sure who were our classmates, from the same program there.<\/p>\n

The doors were opened and everybody just started to go inside and upstairs. There we saw a lot of queues for each one of the programs. In that moment we could see some of ours classmates. This queue was to take the student package <\/em>and a tag with a coloured dot on it, with our names and programs. Kelly Sawatsky<\/em> was the one who gave the package to us from GD Program<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

After we got our packages, we queued up with our passports to get our student permit scanned. It takes just a few minutes and then I’ve found a place to sit and to see what was inside the student package. Not so much, we had just one form to fill about important contacts, an orientation schedule for the first day of classes – that by the way it was today – a paper with our names and our programs and, finally, a Game Design Student Handbook<\/em> with a lot of cool information, plus a introduction to the program and a quick overview for each one of the 6 terms of Game Design. It’s amazing and scary at the same time how many subjects we will have during this year. WOOW! I was impressed!<\/p>\n

Until we were waiting for the moment to go into the movie theatre, they offered us some breakfast (…) Everyone inside and a quiz started in the movie theatre screen.\u00a0The quiz was related to the school, on the number of countries that the school serves and has served until now, on the alumni awards etc. To answer the quiz we should just raise our hands at the time the correspondent letter was marked. Even if this quiz was just a little more to “sell” the school to us, it was really fun and interesting to follow because this was only the beginning of the whole “spectacle” that was the orientation day.<\/p>\n

In short, the presentation was mainly held by someone who I guess is the head of marketing of the school – sorry, I don’t remember the names now! – then he started a quick conversation about where mostly of us cames from, questioning the audience of students. Then several student works were presented. The entire faculty was presented, as well as some things about the student services. After all the presentations, a video began with a retrospective of VFS in 2011. It was impressive to see how many of the students had a great success in the industry, with large stakes in movies, games etc.<\/p>\n

When we thought everything had already been made, a very funny video began with tips and suggestions from former students of VFS. They talked about feeding recommendations, on the importance of always keeping healthy, on places to visit in Vancouver and, of course, on how hard it will be our journey through this our year of study, and that we must work full time, because the results will be rewarding.<\/p>\n

Finally, we left the movie theatre and\u00a0we got our Student ID\u00a0Pictures<\/strong> taken. And for those who wanted to\u00a0check out the Vendor Fair<\/strong> to see if there was anything of interest, they were organized there in another place of Scotiabank Theatre. The Vendor Fair was separated by Student Services, Housing, Banking, Medical, Cell Phone and Fitness Information.<\/p>\n

In general the orientation day was amazing and impressive. Everything that has been said to us during the presentation gave a feeling of “up” inside me, which makes me believe that even knowing that this year will be very long and difficult, will be worth it to play hard<\/em> for it.<\/p>\n

Ol\u00e1 a todos, eu estou finalmente trazendo mais informa\u00e7\u00f5es interessantes sobre a escola, para aqueles que s\u00e3o muito curiosos em rela\u00e7\u00e3o a cada etapa do curso. Hoje foi o meu primeiro dia na escola, por\u00e9m esse post \u00e9 sobre ontem no Orientation Day da VFS<\/strong>. Eu fiquei bem empolgado durante toda a apresenta\u00e7\u00e3o e eu posso dizer com certeza que qualquer um que estiver pensando em come\u00e7ar a estudar na VFS ir\u00e1 se sentir da mesma maneira no dia da orienta\u00e7\u00e3o, porque \u00e9 incr\u00edvel!<\/p>\n

O Orientation Day foi agendado no Scotiabank Theatre<\/strong>, da Burrard Street. Scotiabank Theatre \u00e9 um dos melhores cinemas de Vancouver. Foi bem interessante ver o qu\u00e3o poderosa \u00e9 a escola, ao ponto de ter alugado esse cinema para fazer esse evento para os estudantes.<\/p>\n

A escola nos pediu para que comparec\u00eassemos no local \u00e0s 8h00 da manh\u00e3. Eu acabei chegando alguns minutos antes e eu pude observar outros estudantes que tamb\u00e9m estavam na mesma situa\u00e7\u00e3o esperando as portas serem abertas. \u00c9 claro que como eu sou uma pessoa muito ansiosa, eu j\u00e1 sentia o meu cora\u00e7\u00e3o batendo acelerado pela espera. E como todos os cursos da escola teriam o seu dia de orienta\u00e7\u00e3o marcada para aquele mesmo momento, ningu\u00e9m sabia ao certo quem daquelas outras pessoas eram da nossa mesma classe e mesmo curso.<\/p>\n

As portas se abriram e todos entraram e subiram as escadas para o andar de cima. L\u00e1 n\u00f3s vimos uma grande quantidade de filas, que se dizia respeito a cada um dos cursos diferentes. Nesse momento eu pude ver outras pessoas que eram da mesma turma que eu. Essa fila nos levava para o nosso pacote de estudante<\/em> e para uma tag colorida que continha o nosso nome e programa escrito no mesmo. Kelly Sawatsky<\/em> foi quem nos entregou o pacote de estudante.<\/p>\n

Depois de pegarmos o pacote, n\u00f3s fomos indicados para uma segunda fila que dever\u00edamos levar o nosso passaport com o student permit para ser scaneados. Esse processo levaram-se apenas alguns minutos e em seguida eu encontrei um lugar para me sentar e ver o que continha dentro do pacote. L\u00e1 dentro tinha apenas um formul\u00e1rio sobre contatos importantes a ser preenchido, nossos hor\u00e1rios para a aula do pr\u00f3ximo dia – que por sinal foi hoje – um papel com nosso nome e nosso curso e, finalmente, o Game Design Student Handbook<\/em> que de modo geral re\u00fane v\u00e1rias informa\u00e7\u00f5es importantes, regras, al\u00e9m de uma introdu\u00e7\u00e3o sobre o nosso curso e com um resumo a respeito de cada um dos 6 termos que teremos no curso. \u00c9 impressionante e assustador ao mesmo tempo a quantidade de mat\u00e9rias que teremos durante esse ano. WOOW! Eu fiquei assustado!<\/p>\n

Enquanto esper\u00e1vamos pelo momento de entrar na sala de cinema, a escola nos ofereceu um caf\u00e9 da manh\u00e3 completo. (…) Todos dentro da sala, e um quiz se iniciou na tela do cinema. O quiz era relacionado com a escola, sobre a quantidade de pa\u00edses que a escola serve e ja serviu, sobre as premia\u00e7\u00f5es que v\u00e1rios alunos ja tiveram com seus projetos etc. Para responder ao quiz bastava levantarmos as m\u00e3os na medida que as respostas corretas fossem surgindo na tela. Mesmo sabendo que esse quiz tinha mais uma finalidade de “vender” a escola para n\u00f3s, foi realmente divertido e interessante de acompanhar, at\u00e9 porque foi apenas o in\u00edcio de todo um “espet\u00e1culo” que o dia de orienta\u00e7\u00e3o foi.<\/p>\n

Resumindo, a apresenta\u00e7\u00e3o foi realizada principalmente por algu\u00e9m que eu acredito que seja o chefe de marketing da escola – desculpe-me, n\u00e3o me lembro dos nomes agora! – ent\u00e3o ele come\u00e7a uma conversa r\u00e1pida sobre de onde a maioria de n\u00f3s viemos, questionando a plat\u00e9ia de estudantes. Em seguida v\u00e1rios trabalhos de alunos foram apresentados, o que acredito que deixou a grande maioria de boca aberta. Todo o corpo docente foi apresentado, assim como algumas coisas a respeito dos servi\u00e7os estudantis. Depois de todas as apresenta\u00e7\u00f5es, iniciou-se um v\u00eddeo com a retrospectiva da VFS em 2011. Foi impressionante ver como muitos dos alunos tiveram um grande sucesso na ind\u00fastria, com grandes participa\u00e7\u00f5es em filmes, games etc.<\/p>\n

Quando ach\u00e1vamos que tudo j\u00e1 havia sido apresentado, um v\u00eddeo muito engra\u00e7ado come\u00e7ou, com dicas e sugest\u00f5es de antigos alunos da VFS. Eles falavam sobre recomenda\u00e7\u00f5es de alimenta\u00e7\u00e3o, sobre a import\u00e2ncia de se manter sempre saud\u00e1vel, sobre lugares para visitarmos em Vancouver e, obviamente, sobre o qu\u00e3o trabalhosa ser\u00e1 a nossa jornada durante esse nosso ano de estudos, e que devemos nos esfor\u00e7ar bastante, que assim os resultados ser\u00e3o gratificantes.<\/p>\n

Finalmente, n\u00f3s deixamos a sala de cinema e fomos tirar a nossa foto para o ID de estudante<\/strong>. E para aqueles que queriam passar pela Vendor Fair<\/strong> para ver se havia algo que pudesse se interessar, a escola organizou um espa\u00e7o espec\u00edfico para isso dentro do Scotiabank Theatre. Essa feira foi dividida em Servi\u00e7os Estudantis, Servi\u00e7os de Habita\u00e7\u00e3o, Banco, Seguro de Sa\u00fade, empresas de celular, servi\u00e7o de loca\u00e7\u00e3o de carros e informa\u00e7\u00f5es sobre academia.<\/p>\n

De modo geral o orientation day foi incr\u00edvel e impressionante por assim dizer. Tudo que foi dito para n\u00f3s durante a apresenta\u00e7\u00e3o deu uma sensa\u00e7\u00e3o de “up” por dentro, que me faz acreditar que mesmo sabendo que esse ano ser\u00e1 bem longo e dif\u00edcil, vai valer a pena se esfor\u00e7ar por ele.<\/p><\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/div><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
